Following that lovely day at the beach, I couldn’t wait to be at Sarah and Josh’s wedding. It was a gorgeous wedding. Oh, it was like a dream.

Some of my favorite moments while both the bride and groom were getting ready:

Sarah’s wedding dress is beautiful. And oh, the ringbearers are cute Labradors who walked down the aisle! How cute can you get? Sarah and Josh also wrote their own vows – something that I always found to be the greatest thing at a wedding. Written vows are intimate, earnest, and to some extent – holy. These are words from hearts laid bare, and we are ever so lucky to witness this, really. Josh was teary-eyed throughout.

Sarah planned and designed the whole wedding all by herself – a lovely feat for this creative lady! The color motif of black, white and green was also a big hit. The apple green was like springtime, and it brought so much life to the elegance that was already the whole wedding. There were two moments that touched me: One, when I was taking photographs of Sarah and her parents, I heard them say to each other, “We made a beautiful daughter together.” I thought that was very sweet.

Two, when Sarah’s sister came up to me and said that she appreciates how I care about the entire family, as I make sure that they all have their photos taken. I was really touched. Whenever I photograph weddings, I always remember that the event is just as significant to each one as it is for the bride and groom. I know that it is important for each one to have their own memory of what happened, so that they would have something to remember for themselves.

I had a lovely time. I love that in the future we all can look back on this day and say, I was part of this wedding, I was part of something good and beautiful and true.

It was my first time doing a three-hour drive for a wedding, and it was raining so hard the morning of Eva and Bryan’s wedding. I was dearly hoping it would stop. As soon as I arrived at the location, the rain miraculously let up. Yay!

Eva’s adorable daughter, Jilian, was showing me how to twirl. So cute!

Oh, I love this one! Something about it that’s “je ne sais quoi.”

When Eva was walking down the aisle, the look on Bryan’s face was priceless – it seemed like the whole world just faded away and there was no one else there but the two of them.

And how even lovelier it was that they were all surrounded by good friends who celebrated their big day.

Pelicans came out to celebrate with them, flying low above the water, adding character to the already magnificent backdrop.

When Eva told me about their love story, I could see that she was really head over heels about Bryan – he’s romantic and thoughtful and everything Eva wanted and was looking for. Even his ways of wooing her were adorable – leaving little love notes, surprising her with gifts – I thought it was all extraordinary.

I took the following two images with my trusted iPhone in Eva’s office: The potato plant reminds her where she’s from, the aromatic scented oil is where she escapes to, and a set of oil paintings from an artist who she admires.  Those are just a few samplings of Bryan’s thoughtful and romantic gestures.

This was such a fun session. Sweet couple. Sweet setting. It was seriously hard to narrow down the photos for this teaser! I look forward to Sarah and Josh’s wedding tomorrow!

friday five xi

March 5, 2010

This week’s Friday Five is all about sunshine! Yellow and mellow and full of warmth! Yellow weddings are fantastic, in my opinion. We should have more yellow weddings. Someday I hope to get a bride who’s going to have a yellow wedding. Here’s one of my favorite yellow poems: Yellow Glove by Naomi Shihab Nye. Happy weekend, everyone!

Friday Five are things that make me swoon and all that jazz. These amazing people make me love what I do even more!
